Es un instrumento usado por los agricultores desde hace unos 3500 a\u00f1os para remover y voltear la tierra, para poder sembrar sus cosechas. El arado en principio estaba hecho de madera o formado por una rama de orquillas. El arado del que escribo yo, se trata un arado de vertedera. Este arado no fue empleado en Asturias hasta el siglo XX. Consiste en una reja que rompe el suelo y la vertedera que lo voltea por completo hacia el lado derecho o al izquierdo de la direcci\u00f3n de avance. El volteo se debe de efectuar en una sola pasada, porque una segunda grada puede sacar de nuevo el material incorporado. Para utilizarlo, el agricultor ataba el arado a un animal de tiro, seg\u00fan mi t\u00edo, casi siempre usaban un burro, el burro tiraba del arado y el agricultor dirig\u00eda el arado con las manceras, que mov\u00edan el tim\u00f3n.
